- Start with a deep clean
Before you begin any cleaning, it’s best to start with a deep clean. This means getting into all the nooks and crannies and cleaning the floors, walls, and surfaces thoroughly. This is especially important if you have a pet that sheds a lot of furs. Use a vacuum cleaner with a pet hair attachment to get rid of all the loose hair on carpets and furniture. You can also use a lint roller to pick up hair from upholstery and curtains. Dust and wipe all surfaces, including shelves, picture frames, and light fixtures. Don’t forget to clean your pet’s bedding, toys, and food bowls.
2.Tackle pet odors
Pets have a distinct odor that can linger in the air and on surfaces. To get rid of pet odors, use an enzymatic cleaner that breaks down the proteins in pet urine and other organic materials. You can also use baking soda to absorb the odors. Sprinkle baking soda on carpets and upholstery, leave it for a few hours, and then vacuum it up. For an instant fresh scent, use an air freshener specifically designed for pet odors.
3. Clean your pet’s grooming tools
Your pet’s grooming tools can also harbor bacteria and dirt, which can spread around your home. Clean your pet’s brushes, combs, and clippers regularly to keep them in good condition and prevent any cross-contamination. Use mild soap and warm water to clean the tools, and let them air dry completely before using them again.
4.Protect your furniture
Pets can cause a lot of damage to furniture, especially if they scratch or chew on it. To protect your furniture, use slipcovers or protective covers that are specifically designed for pet owners. You can also invest in scratching posts and chew toys to redirect your pet’s behavior away from your furniture.
5.Clean your floors regularly
Pets can bring in a lot of dirt and debris from outside, which can accumulate on your floors. To keep your floors clean, sweep or vacuum them regularly. You can also use a steam cleaner to deep clean your carpets and hard floors. This will not only remove dirt and stains but also kill bacteria and allergens.
